Medical Coding

Being a successful medical coder requires an understanding of the medical coding dictionaries and the ability to navigate dictionaries to standardize data sets. Our special topics medical coding session is for medical and allied medical focused individuals in the pharmaceutical industry who will want to explore medical coding dictionaries and apply skills to data sets. This 4-week course will focus on learning about the fundamental pharmaceutical coding dictionaries, MedDRA and WHOdrug, and how they are used on clinical trial safety data sets.

Who Should Take This Course

This is an excellent program for the Entry level Medical Professional, M.D., P.A., master’s level medical and allied medical professional interested in exploring medical coding opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry.

At the end of this course, students will be introduced to the use of medical coding in the pharmaceutical industry, and directed to the professional training(s) available that may lead to certification in medical coding.

Duration and Prerequisites

A total of 4 weeks is needed for completing the program.

Education and/or Experience
Medical Degree and/or BS in the life sciences field, with graduate level education in medical/clinical discipline.* Experience in pharma is a plus. Strong desire to understand fundamentals of medical coding pharmaceutical environment.

Assessments
Knowledge checks will be performed through a quiz in every session. A minimum of 75% is required to pass the final examination.

* Degrees or diplomas from educational institutions outside the United States must be equivalent to degrees from U.S. educational institutions.
